Downtown Los Angeles is about 110 miles from our yard on I-5, which is a single driving shift, and the Antelope Valley is closer still by way of SR-58 and SR-14. We move flatbed, step deck, end dump, walking floor, curtain van, belt trailer and lowboy freight throughout the county.
Most of what moves between the Central Valley and Los Angeles is a one-way problem for somebody. A carrier based in the LA basin has to deadhead north to get your load and price the empty miles into the rate. We are already at the top of the Grapevine, so freight moving in either direction on this lane is a natural fit rather than an exception.
It also means we know the route. The Tejon Pass grade sets real limits on heavy and oversize loads, and a winter closure on I-5 will stop freight cold if the carrier has no alternative. We run SR-58 and SR-14 through Mojave when the pass is a problem, and for Antelope Valley destinations we do not use the Grapevine at all.

Oversize work in LA County is as much a routing problem as a trucking one. Bridge clearances through the older parts of the city, weight limits on the Tejon grade and the permit windows Caltrans allows all have to be worked out before the truck is loaded, not after.
